Barker Dam by Hidden Valley Campground, Joshua Tree
Joshua Tree again? Well yeah, it's cool, so sue me. It's so close to Los Angeles, a day trip or a one night car-camping trip isn't out of the question. The stars get insane at 6:30pm and despite the windy night; it was a peaceful night around the campfire. My friend and I tried to scale some rocks (try is the keyword here since my ankle is still kaputt from New Years) to watch the sunset, but settled on a (still pretty high) vantage point to watch the sun go down in Barker Dam.

It's an easy trip where you can grab some snacks at the local stores along the road, pitch a tent and just use the rest of the time to explore. The Joshua Trees there are nothing short of extraordinary.

What's your favorite getaway?
