WHAT I WORE // Free + Sunny Vibes

Sunday, May 31, 2015

Los Angeles is finally getting the sunny weather it's known for! I'm sipping on cold brew coffee like it's my job (can we talk about this holographic cup?!) and getting ready for the beach. My word, what am I talking about? It's always beach season here, even when it's 45 degrees out. Regardless, I am stoked to not have to wear a winter wetsuit, jacket or anything else during the day. These destroyed shorts are my own DIY doing and are one of my favorite articles of clothing. Denim is never going to die when it comes to my closet. Yup, you can pry it from my cold dead hands - y'hurr?

I've been in a running competition with my co-workers and as much as I f*cking hate running, my legs and body have been thanking me for it. I really am starting to love my legs! We, as a team, are trying to run 100 miles by July 4th and I am about 27 miles in (I'll be at 33 hopefully by tomorrow). In the past I had a lot of problems with body image and my weight. Having an eating disorder (at any point in your life) affects you way after the storm has passed. Even though you may be "normal" in your eating habits now, negative thoughts from the past try to ruin your progress. This year and last I really have taken my health into account and have consciously scolded myself when I was being mean/unfair to myself. I've done small things, like being kind to myself, to things like cleaning my Instagram; if I follow someone for their body, I unfollow. It actually helps when you don't have that constant comparison!

I've always been interested in what I ate, so it only made sense that I made sure that it made my body healthy and fueled it. Okay, so I won't lie I had both Taco Bell AND In-n-Out this week (I blame my boss) but I try not to indulge all the time. And if I do, I work my ass off to get back to where I was before ...and I don't beat myself up about it. It's about moderation and being in good overall health. I'm also 27 and don't have the time to be overly-concerned with "being brave" about my weight. It's so boring. Let's forget our ages, weights, heights, etc. and just enjoy ourselves in this life!

These platforms were on sale at Free People's website for Memorial Day and I snatched up a pair for an extra 20% off. They're still available within their sale section. Every time I go on that website, I want to spend every cent I have. Definitely have to muster some willpower! I'm quite tall with flats on, 6 foot even, but I don't think there needs to be any restraint when it comes to wearing what you want. I love wearing higher shoes, chunky heels and the like. 1970s platforms are my jam; and these have that bohemian influence I gravitate to. Not to mention, the modest height makes this pair something you can wear on the daily. Pair them with boyfriend jeans, skinny jeans or skirts. They really do go with everything.
