BEAUTY & STYLE // Daily Make-Up Routine

Monday, June 01, 2015

My routine isn't anything special, most of it comes from a drugstore, but despite that I love make-up. On a daily basis I wear a few products, in pretty neutral colors. Most of my decision comes from the fact I never know when I'll be sweating or in the water at any given point in the day. But give me bronzer, a glow, glossed lip etc. and I'll be happy! Special occasions or a decision to grab a drink in public will sometimes give me an excuse to swipe on eyeliner and a color shadow/lipstick. Ha!

TOOLS
Since my everyday routine you see here is very elementary, I use clean fingers for most creams, concealers, etc. Eyeshadows are applied with a soft brush for a light sweeping. Powder and bronzer is applied with a powder brush.

FACE + BASE
I use a few cremes, all very easily found at your drugstore or Target. Nivea Moisturizing Creme (in the big blue glass tub) is one of the first beauty products I was ever introduced to, by my mother. She has used it since she was 17 and is just NOW getting wrinkles. It's also a pretty good dopple-ganger for some more expensive cremes. So save your money and celebrate! Since it is so heavy, I use it sparingly as a night creme for my face, neck and chest. During the day I use Clean & Clear's Dual Action moisturizer and a small eye creme my mother bought for me at a TJ MAXX. If you don't hit up Marshalls or TJ MAXX for beauty cremes, you're missing out. Especially keep an eye out for the Polish-made cremes as a majority are cruelty-free! I recently have been trying to take better care of my skin, concerning suncare, and have picked up Banana Boat's Sunless Tanning Lotion for the winter time (we've been getting little sun, unfortunately).

Besides starting with a clean face, I prep my face with a BB cream like L'Oreal's Magic Skin BB cream. Sweet baby Jesus, this was the first BB cream I ever tried and I'm in love with it. It comes out neutral like a sunscreen and then matches your skin color. Love how beautifully matte it makes your skin. If I need to cover up any spots with concealer, I'll use NYX's concealer jar (no pictured) or L'Oreal's Visible Lift Blur foundation. The NYX concealer is not my favorite, it's a rather oily/slick feeling formula on my skin. Finishing up with my base, I'll use NYX's Rouge Cream Blush in either 'Natural' or 'Boho Chic' (not pictured) or Milani's Baked Blush in 'Luminoso'. It is quite a comparison to the absurdly expensive NARS 'Orgasm', so I suggest you give it a try. If I decide to skip the blush for the day, I'll use Milani's XL Bronzer and NYX's Liquid Illuminator on all my key sun spots to amp up any glow I have.

EYES
I have extremely sensitive eyes that water constantly. More specifically I have a weirdo left-eye (not in the cool TLC way) that waters at the drop of a hat. The only eyeliner that I found smudgeproof is Milani's Infinite liquid eyeliner. I don't wear it every day, but this has been my go-to since my college years. I haven't found a better waterproof mascara than L'Oreal's Miss Manga Mascara. I was really pleasantly surprised by Miss Manga, so I'd advise checking it out! If I really want to splurge, I will always stand by my choice of Diorshow Blackout (not pictured).

I don't wear eyeshadow everyday. The one product I will stand by, however, is Smashbox's eyeshadow in 'ASAP'. Apparently it was a limited edition color and I spend all my extra time on finding this kick ass color. NYX (surprise, surprise) has come extremely close to replicating this shade, so worst case scenario I'll be safe from shanking someone for the last morsel of make-up. A really cool and basic trick I use, is to use white eyeliner (mine is MAC's Eye Kohl in 'Fascinating') to make myself look more awake or done up than I am. I tried to hop on the bold brow train a bit ago, but I soon realized that manicured brows aren't really my thing. For now I usually go over my brows with eyebrow wax/hairspray and brush the stray hairs into place; while plucking the lone rangers on the outskirts.

LIPS
Another area I go pretty natural in is the lip area. I have fuller lips so I like to usually only play them up on night's out. Otherwise, I will go with NYX's Matte Lip Cream in 'Stockholm' or 'Cairo'. To top it it off I'll swipe some Rosebud salve or lipbalm. I've recently found Make Up Academy's glosses and colors at CVS; so the natural nude is a favorite of mine as well when I want a more opaque gloss color.

Honestly, as much as I love dolling myself up; having make up on really doesn't break or make my day. It's a fun thing to play with, that's it! There are days when I go completely naked and carefree. Let your skin breathe and embrace your natural beauty. When you are comfortable in your own skin; that confidence and joy is the best beauty statement you can make (cue 'aw' sounds).

What about you, have you tried any of these brands or products? What is your routine like?
